Isaiah 9:2-7
King of Angels, Prince of Peace

The sermon title comes from both our opening hymn ("O Come, All Ye Faithful?)--Come and behold him, born the King of angels”— and from our Isaiah 9:2-7 Scripture reading: “He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Indeed, Jesus, the son given to us, born of Mary and begotten as the very essence of God, is both a heavenly King and an earthly Prince, both divine and human. He is both rich in the splendor of His heavenly kingdom and yet, also poor, possessing little during his earthly sojourn. He was and is, in the words of our previous Breakthrough sermon series: “Both/And.” In fact, he is both our earthly Gift and our eternal Giver.
