Grace Union celebrated its annual Christmas Eve service December 24th at 11 PM to midnight. The one-hour, traditional service featured reading Christmas scriptures and singing carols amid bright candles and lighting of the Advent wreath.

Each key moment of the Nativity story was recounted in scripture and song, including the foretelling and preparation, to the announcement and celebration of Jesus’ long-awaited birth. The final hymn, “Silent Night,” was sung in the darkened sanctuary, as worshipers lit one another’s candles to slowly illuminate the sacred space.

Lay Leader Wendy Dorfman, CLM, led the gathered congregation in reflection on the occasion and what it means to each life tenderly embraced by God and enlightened by our Father’s precious gift to bless all of humanity. Wendy had led an earlier Christmas Eve service at the church she serves as pastor, Weymouth UMC.

Her benediction read:

As we leave this place tonight, may our hearts and spirits be filled to overflowing with peace, hope, joy and love.  May we all remember that night so long ago and what the true meaning of Christmas is.  May we never lose sight of that star and the baby in the dirty manger.  The one who came to show us all how to live and love.  AMEN
